What changed?
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) says pledges and confirmed funding commitments for 2026 and 2027 reached nearly CHF 120 million at its DREF pledging conference in Geneva. The total includes contributions announced at the meeting, commitments from absent partners and up to CHF 15 million a year in contingent insurance financing. The Disaster Response Emergency Fund supports local Red Cross and Red Crescent societies before and during emergencies. The conference brought together 50 partners and organizations and featured 25 pledging statements. According to IFRC, the fund allocated CHF 77.4 million to 170 operations across 83 National Societies in 2025. More than 78 percent went directly to National Societies. The new commitments support its ambition to expand the fund's capacity to CHF 200 million by 2030; that remains a target, rather than a capacity already reached.
Why it matters
The commitments support a fund that finances local emergency response and action before predicted hazards. IFRC says more than 78 percent of its 2025 allocations went directly to National Societies.
