Cyprus Unveils €2 Million Autism Centre in Strovolos
WHY IT MATTERS
The new centre fills a critical gap in autism support, offering safe, dignified care and skill‑building opportunities while setting a benchmark for inclusive community design in Cyprus.
What happened
President Nikos Christodoulides announced the opening of a new €2 million autism centre in Strovolos, covering 740 m² and accommodating up to 30 residents. The centre, the result of an architectural competition won by Chrysostomos Theodoropoulos, Eleni Livani and Panayiota Karamanea, aims to become a model of quality care, blending calmness, safety, learning and skill development within a dignified environment.
Approved by the cabinet in November 2025 and fully funded by Eurobank, the design features an internal courtyard and sensory garden to reduce stimuli and promote orientation. Deputy Welfare Minister Tina Pavlou highlighted the centre’s role in providing day care for adults over 22, offering creative activities, gradual social integration and personalised support.
Plans for a similar model centre in Famagusta are also underway.
