What happened
Google, in collaboration with HHMI Janelia and other partners, has released a comprehensive map of the brain and central nervous system of a male fruit fly, a cornerstone model organism in biological research. The project produced five high‑resolution visualizations that illustrate the intricate neural architecture of the fly’s nervous system.
By charting every neuron and synapse, the team has created a reference atlas that can be used by neuroscientists worldwide to investigate how neural circuits generate behavior and how they may be altered in disease.
