European Parliament Members Targeted by Deepfake Pornography
WHY IT MATTERS
The targeting of European Parliament members by deepfake pornography highlights the need for effective enforcement of the EU's ban on AI-powered nudifier apps and the investigation into similar use of Grok on X.
What happened
Fifty European Union lawmakers, including 46 women, have been targeted by deepfake pornography, according to a report by Agora Digitale Transformation. The European Union is banning AI-powered nudifier apps on December 2 and investigating similar use of Grok on the social media platform X.
A cross-party group of MEPs has called for effective enforcement of the ban and prompt resolution of the investigation. The report suggests that the Commission should hold accountable entities that enable the nudifier industry, including payment processors and domain registrars.
Search engines should also remove AI nudifier websites from their databases.
