Hong Kong AFCD Captures Eight Unattended Dogs After Suspected Fatal Attack

Following a suspected fatal dog attack on Pok Wai South Road in Yuen Long on 19 September, the Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department (AFCD) and police carried out a five‑day operation that captured eight unattended dogs. The animals were taken to the AFCD’s Animal Management Centre for detention and observation. Three dogs had expired licences despite microchips. The AFCD has prosecuted the registered keeper of one dog for licence failure and lack of control in a public place. A frontline AFCD staff member was bitten by a dog on 23 September and is under observation in hospital. The department will continue targeted capture and enforcement, clarifying that it does not euthanise animals within four days of intake and will not release dogs back into the community.
