Indian Railways to Launch 24‑Coach Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains with Pantry Car
WHY IT MATTERS
The addition of pantry facilities and larger coach sets aims to improve comfort and efficiency for long‑distance passengers, supporting India’s goal of upgrading national rail infrastructure.
What happened
After the successful launch of 16‑coach Vande Bharat units, Indian Railways announced plans to roll out more than 200 sleeper variants over the next few years. The new 24‑coach configuration will be a direct extension of the existing high‑speed train design, adding a dedicated pantry car to enhance passenger convenience on long‑haul journeys.
Three major manufacturing projects are currently underway to meet the projected demand.
The expansion reflects the railways’ broader strategy to modernise long‑distance travel and increase capacity across the network.
