Agility Robotics Unveils Digit 5, a Humanoid Robot That Squats to Keep Workers Safe

Agility Robotics today introduced Digit 5, its first humanoid robot designed to operate safely alongside human coworkers. The robot uses a sophisticated safe‑motion system that reacts to human presence in real time. When a person is detected at a distance, Digit 5 can move aside or pause to let the person pass. If a person approaches too closely, the robot will lower itself into a squat or seated posture, preventing accidental contact. These features eliminate the need for isolated work cells or physical barriers, allowing the robot to share space with humans in settings such as warehouses and automotive factories. The company says the new safety capabilities could open many more deployment scenarios for humanoid robots in industrial environments.
