Cyprus Aims to Boost Role of Female Farmers
WHY IT MATTERS
The initiative aims to revive rural areas and support their productivity, with a focus on empowering women in the agriculture sector.
What happened
Cyprus Agriculture Minister Christos Senekis announced further support measures to facilitate access to financing and sustainable investments for the agriculture sector. The measures aim to create conditions for the inclusion of women and their knowledge and experience, transforming it into increased employment and development opportunities in rural areas.
Senekis emphasized the importance of supporting rural women, citing the village of Agros as an example of how traditional knowledge has evolved into a productive activity.
The ministry will conduct a broad consultation with the agricultural community to plan the new agricultural policy after 2027, with the participation of rural women.
