AI Chatbots Outperform Search Engines in Countering Foreign Propaganda

Researchers tested several widely used AI chatbots against search engines to see how they handle false statements circulated by foreign actors. The chatbots, when prompted with claims from the test set, largely debunked the misinformation and did not repeat it uncritically. In contrast, traditional search engines returned the false claims in their results, and AI‑generated summaries placed above search results performed worse than the chatbots. The study indicates that AI chatbots can act as a first line of defense against foreign propaganda, offering a more reliable filter than current search‑engine methods.
