Hong Kong to Boost Smart Mobility with AI Projects

WHY IT MATTERS

These AI projects aim to improve efficiency and reduce processing times for licensing services and traffic management, enhancing the overall smart mobility experience in Hong Kong.

What happened

The Hong Kong Transport Department has announced a series of artificial intelligence (AI) projects to enhance smart mobility. The initiatives include streamlining licensing services, implementing adaptive traffic signals, and deploying an AI-powered Traffic Management Platform. The Easy Licence Application Approval project will automatically recognise and verify application documents for online vehicle licence renewals, aiming to push automatic approvals past 90%. The Real-time Adaptive Traffic Signal System (RTATSS) will dynamically allocate green time for pedestrians and reduce maximum pedestrian waiting time. The department is also studying the establishment of an AI-powered Traffic Management Platform to identify traffic bottlenecks and formulate contingency plans.
