Ibiza Residents Block Beach to Protest Overtourism

A group of around 100 residents in Ibiza, Spain, staged a protest at Cala Saladeta beach, a popular tourist destination, to express their frustration with mass tourism. The protest was organized by the Ibiza Youth Association, a local youth group, and aimed to reclaim public spaces for residents. Protesters handed out watermelon and demanded that residents be able to enjoy the island's public spaces without being pushed out by tourists. The group's manifesto criticized the tourism model, which they say caters to wealthy foreigners and famous partygoers, making living costs unaffordable for residents. The island's coves, which attract tourists during the summer season, were also a focus of the group's demands.
