What happened
Cyprus House President Annita Demetriou met with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini in Bratislava to discuss the Cyprus problem. Demetriou expressed appreciation for Slovakia's principled stance on the issue and thanked them for their participation in the United Nations peacekeeping force in Cyprus.
The two leaders shared the conviction that dialogue, diplomacy, and respect for international law are essential for resolving the Cyprus problem. Demetriou also discussed the European dimension and the importance of cooperation between Cyprus and Slovakia within the European Union.
Slovak peacekeepers are responsible for Sector Four of the UN buffer zone in Cyprus, and the Slovak embassy in Nicosia organizes regular meetings of representatives of political parties from both sides of the divide.
