Hong Kong Hosts Apec Finance Ministers’ Meeting, Highlights Role as Bridge
WHY IT MATTERS
The meeting reinforces Hong Kong’s strategic role in linking mainland China with global markets, positioning the city to attract investment and expand its professional services sector in the coming years.
What happened
Hong Kong concluded a two‑day Apec Finance Ministers’ Meeting on Wednesday, with the event drawing participants from both political and business sectors. Financial Secretary Paul Chan said the gathering underscored Hong Kong’s position as a conduit between mainland China and the wider world.
He noted that attendees gained firsthand insight into the city’s infrastructure, investment, and professional services capabilities. Chan emphasized that many countries expressed a need for infrastructure projects, which require investment, professional services, and operational management—areas where Hong Kong can partner.
He also mentioned that some enterprises are interested in entering the mainland market and that Hong Kong can facilitate such collaboration. The secretary added that, given the diverse political stances and development stages of Apec members, Hong Kong will seek common ground while respecting differences, aiming to maximize collaborative opportunities.
