NASA Releases Sonified Version of Eagle Nebula Pillars
WHY IT MATTERS
This unique sonification provides a new way to experience and understand the Eagle Nebula, a significant astronomical feature that offers insights into the formation of stars and our own solar system.
What happened
NASA has released a sonified version of the Eagle Nebula Pillars, allowing people to experience the famous nebula with their ears. The sonification moves left to right, with vertical position determining pitch.
The Eagle Nebula, also known as M16, is a 6,500 light-years distant nebula in the constellation of the Serpent (Serpens). It is sculpted and eroded by the energetic ultraviolet light and powerful winds from its cluster of massive stars.
The nebula's turbulent environment is likely similar to the environment that formed our own Sun.
