Argentina Hosts FIA American Congress, Aims to Re‑Invite Formula One

The Congress will shape regional policies on road safety, sustainable mobility, and motorsport growth, and could pave the way for Argentina to host Formula One again, boosting tourism and investment.
What happened
On 31 August, Argentine President Javier Milei and FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem opened the 2026 FIA American Congress in Buenos Aires. The three‑day meeting, hosted by the Automóvil Club Argentino (ACA), gathered 32 FIA Member Clubs from North, Central, South America and the Caribbean.
The presidents discussed strengthening cooperation between the FIA and Argentina, highlighting the country’s ambition to bring Formula One and the World Rally Championship back to its calendar. Delegates will tackle road safety, sustainable and accessible mobility, AI and new automotive technologies, and the growth of motorsport across the region.
The Congress also will award the FIA Innovation Challenge 2026 Regional Champions and the José Abed Award.
