New Zealand Government Invests $350,000 to Support Auckland Youth Through Polyfest Trust Programme

In a move announced during International Youth Day celebrations, the New Zealand Government has committed $350,000 to the Youth Development Partnership and Innovation Fund to bolster the Polyfest Trust’s three‑month leadership and mentoring programme. The initiative will serve more than 350 Auckland young people aged 12 to 24, offering four intensive sessions that focus on leadership, goal‑setting, and decision‑making as participants prepare for the Secondary School Kapa Haka Nationals and the upcoming ASB Polyfest 2027. The investment is matched by co‑funding from Rangitāmiro Limited ($250,000) and One Foundation Limited ($100,000), bringing the total support to $700,000. Youth Minister James Meager highlighted that the programme will develop personalised attendance and engagement plans with youth mentors, helping participants explore future education, training, or employment pathways. By integrating cultural celebration with skill development, the partnership aims to strengthen at‑risk youth’s confidence, sense of belonging, and long‑term success in education and employment.
