Australia Deploys Drone Specialists to Nepal in Expanded Humanitarian Response

The deployment of drone specialists and the increased humanitarian support package aim to enhance the search and rescue efforts in Nepal, where 38 Australians remain unaccounted for, and provide vital assistance to affected communities.
What happened
The Australian government has announced the deployment of a team of specialist drone operators to Nepal as part of an expanded humanitarian response to the recent floods. The 15-person Disaster Assistance Response Team, including members of Fire and Rescue New South Wales and the Queensland Fire Department, will use advanced drone technology to provide rapid mapping and imaging to support Nepali authorities' search operations.
This deployment is in addition to the 19 Australian personnel already dispatched to Nepal, including consular and humanitarian officers, Australian Federal Police, and Defence personnel.
The Australian Government has also committed to providing a further $3 million to match public donations, bringing the total humanitarian support package to $11 million.
