Australia Struggle in First ODI Against South Africa
WHY IT MATTERS
The three-match series is an invaluable experience for Australia ahead of the 2027 World Cup in South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
What happened
Australia started strong with the bat and ball in the first one-day international against South Africa in Durban, but ultimately lost by 67 runs. The team had a commanding lead early on, but allowed South Africa to reach 297-8 in their 50 overs.
Australia then lost 10 wickets for the addition of 140 runs, with captain Mitch Marsh scoring 60 from 36 balls. The team struggled to form partnerships after Marsh's departure, allowing South Africa to execute well with their spinners.
The second match in the series is scheduled for Johannesburg on Sunday.
