Hong Kong Introduces Automated Immigration Channel for Residents and Mainland Visitors
WHY IT MATTERS
The new automated channel aims to streamline immigration procedures and reduce wait times for passengers travelling between Hong Kong and the Mainland.
What happened
The Hong Kong Immigration Department has launched an automated channel enrolment service for eligible residents and Mainland visitors. The 'collaborative inspection' automated channels at the redeveloped Huanggang Port allow passengers to complete immigration clearance procedures for both Hong Kong and Shenzhen with a single queue and identity document check.
Eligible residents and visitors can enrol for the service through the HK e-Channel mobile application or on-site at the port.
The service is expected to be commissioned in this quarter, with 134 automated channels and 68 traditional manual counters available.
