Backpack Massages Muscles When It Detects They're Fatigued
WHY IT MATTERS
This technology could provide a more effective and personalized approach to relieving back pain, which affects about 1 in 6 adults in the UK.
What happened
Researchers have developed a wearable backpack that can detect when muscles become fatigued and automatically massage the affected areas.
The device uses electrodes to monitor electrical activity in back muscles and adjusts the massage force accordingly.
In a study, participants who wore the backpack during exercise showed improved muscle recovery compared to those who received pre-programmed massages or heat therapy.
