Hong Kong Lawyers Urged to Join Greater Bay Area Legal Exam as New Law Takes Effect

What happened
The 2026 Guangdong‑Hong Kong‑Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) Legal Professional Examination opened today, with Secretary for Justice Paul Lam calling on Hong Kong practitioners to register. Lam highlighted that the First Five‑Year Plan aims to strengthen Hong Kong’s role as an international legal hub under “one country, two systems,” and to deepen the city’s integration with GBA cities.
He noted that the amended Lawyers Law of the People’s Republic of China, effective September 1, now provides the legal framework for the GBA lawyers’ scheme.
Lam urged those already qualified in Hong Kong to obtain dual GBA accreditation, positioning them to contribute to national development and to leverage Hong Kong’s common‑law advantage across the Greater Bay Area.
