Brazil Launches Nationwide E-Waste Collection Service
WHY IT MATTERS
The service aims to reduce electronic waste in Brazil, which is the third-largest generator of e-waste in South America, with only 3 percent of waste collected annually.
What happened
Brazil's postal service has launched a nationwide e-waste collection service, partnering with Circular Brain to collect post-consumer electronics at all 6,868 post offices offering Citizen Service Center services. The free service accepts equipment weighing up to 30 kilograms and tracks the entire process.
Accepted items include cell phones, laptops, tablets, headphones, and other small electronic devices.
This initiative aims to address the issue of improper disposal, which contaminates soil and water and wastes valuable raw materials.
