Cayman Motoring Federation Wins FIA José Abed Award for Driving Education and Motorsport Growth

What happened
The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) announced that the Cayman Motoring Federation (CMF) received the 2026 José Abed Award at its American Congress in Buenos Aires. The award was given for CMF’s comprehensive education programme that links motorsport participation with safer driving practices.
In April, CMF launched the first Cayman Islands ‘Stem Racing’ Nationals, where secondary‑school students designed, branded and tested miniature Formula One cars, promoting engineering skills through competition. Since 2024, esports participation has risen from two to more than 50 racers, with national events such as the Annual Gamers Bay identifying talent for motorsport.
CMF also runs ‘Auto Slalom’ driver‑education courses and promotes the FIA Smart Driving Challenge to improve everyday road habits. The award underscores CMF’s role in nurturing future engineers, expanding motorsport access, and enhancing road safety across the islands.
