In Burkina Faso, the food security outlook has deteriorated due to delayed planting and ongoing conflict. According to the Famine Early Warning System Network, crisis outcomes (IPC Phase 3) will persist in Karo Peli Province through September, with households reducing both the quantity and number of meals consumed per day. Although assistance is helping to reduce severe food consumption deficits, reliance on wild foods and food purchases using marginal income is insufficient to close consumption gaps. In other provinces facing significant security challenges, stressed outcomes (IPC Phase 2) will persist through September, with households' low incomes unable to meet consumption needs. Ongoing food distributions are enabling households to close consumption gaps, but planting delays and irregular rainfall may negatively affect yields and production prospects.
