Researchers have found that bursts of pink noise during sleep can enhance the clearance of waste products from the brain, potentially helping to prevent conditions like Alzheimer's disease. By using an AI model to predict when slow brainwaves peak, the team was able to play pink noise at the right moment, boosting the flow of cerebrospinal fluid and the pumping of blood vessels.
This increased the clearance of waste products, including proteins linked to Alzheimer's disease.
The study suggests that this approach could eventually be delivered via a portable device while people are sleeping, which could be less disruptive than other methods.
