Euro NCAP Confirms Return of Physical Buttons for Basic Functions
WHY IT MATTERS
This shift towards physical buttons and controls is seen as a safer approach, reducing driver distraction and improving overall safety performance.
What happened
Euro NCAP has confirmed that some car manufacturers are making a return to using physical buttons and controls for basic functions, rather than relying on touchscreens and voice control. The latest round of vehicle safety tests assessed three new cars, including the Audi Q7, Kia EV2, and XPENG X9.
The results show that car manufacturers are responding to consumer criticism of overly complex driving controls.
Audi's new Q7 scores a high 90% overall for driving controls, while the XPENG X9 relies too heavily on touchscreen technology, scoring only 20%.
