Central Kowloon Bypass Fully Opens on December 6 with $8 Toll
WHY IT MATTERS
The Central Kowloon Bypass commissioning is expected to bring considerable convenience to the public, reducing travel time and alleviating traffic congestion in Kowloon.
What happened
The Hong Kong Government announced that the Central Kowloon Bypass will be fully commissioned on December 6, 2026. The bypass will have an $8 toll for all vehicles, as approved by the Legislative Council in 2025.
The commissioning of Route 6, which includes the Central Kowloon Bypass, is expected to reduce the journey time between Tseung Kwan O and Yau Ma Tei during peak hours from about 65 minutes to about 12 minutes. The Transport & Logistics Bureau set the toll at $8 after considering public affordability, aiming to recover part of the operating costs and alleviate traffic on major roads in Kowloon.
The Government has been launching publicity campaigns to inform the public about the toll arrangement.
