What happened
A food crisis is expected to persist in the Central African Republic from August 2026 to January 2027, particularly in the north-east, north-west, and Haut-Mbomou regions. The ongoing insecurity will limit access to fields, income opportunities, and main commercial routes.
Despite expected harvests in the north from October, production will remain below average in several conflict-affected and displaced population areas. Households will continue to rely on debt and asset sales, but will still face food consumption deficits, reducing meal frequency and quantity.
Market conditions will remain degraded due to persistent supply disruptions and fuel shortages since July, increasing transportation and commercialization costs.
