Carlos Yulo Earns P4 Million After Winning Two Golds at 2026 Asian Games
WHY IT MATTERS
Yulo’s payout highlights the Philippines’ growing investment in elite athletes and underscores the country’s rising competitiveness in multi‑sport events, boosting national pride and encouraging future sporting success.
What happened
Artistic gymnast Carlos Yulo will receive a P4 million cash incentive from the Philippine government after winning gold medals in the men’s floor exercise and vault at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya. Under Republic Act 10699, each gold earns P2 million, so Yulo’s two victories bring him to the top of the incentive list, joining only eight Filipino athletes who have won multiple golds in a single Asian Games edition.
The same law also awards P2 million to pole‑vault champion EJ Obiena and taekwondo gold‑medalist Jeus Gabriel Derick Yape for their victories.
The Philippines finished the Games with 29 medals—nine silvers and 16 bronzes—its highest haul in six decades, and a 17th‑place finish matching 2023.
