Hong Kong Government Discusses Higher Education Development

Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee met with the University Grants Committee (UGC) to discuss the development of the city's higher education sector. The meeting focused on strengthening industry, academia, and research integration through the Northern Metropolis University Town Area development. The UGC briefed Lee on its strategic initiatives to promote Hong Kong as an international post-secondary education hub, including high-profile summits and forums to facilitate exchanges with global academic leaders. Lee thanked the UGC for their advice and efforts to enhance the internationalisation and diversification of UGC-funded universities, stating that Hong Kong's development prospects for higher education remain highly promising. The Government will soon release its First Five-Year Plan, aligning with the National 15th Five-Year Plan, to advance strategies such as accelerating the Northern Metropolis development and building a hub for high-calibre talent.
