What happened
A severe food security crisis is unfolding in eastern Chad, where rainfall deficits have led to worsening food insecurity. Between August 2026 and January 2027, Crisis (IPC Phase 3) outcomes are expected to persist in the Ouaddaï, Sila, Wadi Fira, and Ennedi Est provinces.
Refugees and host populations are heavily dependent on markets and food assistance, with pressure on livelihoods increasing due to lean season conditions. However, conditions are expected to improve with the harvests in October, with Crisis (IPC Phase 3) outcomes expected to decline in some areas.
In other regions, such as Lac Province, security conditions are deteriorating, and the season is delayed, resulting in declining income and food consumption deficits among internally displaced persons and host populations.
