Honor Robot Loses Leg Amid Drama at 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games
WHY IT MATTERS
The failures expose critical design gaps, pushing manufacturers to strengthen joint reinforcement and safety protocols for next‑generation humanoid robots.
What happened
The 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games finished in Beijing on August 26, 2026, after five days of competition at the National Speed Skating Oval. A humanoid robot built by smartphone maker Honor crashed, losing a leg during a sprint in the optional boxing routine event.
Other robots also tripped, producing sparks and brief stoppages. The event highlighted both the advanced capabilities of current humanoid platforms and their mechanical fragility.
The incidents prompted organizers to call for stricter durability testing and faster emergency‑stop mechanisms in future competitions.
