Cyprus Aims to Double Troodos Population with New Housing Plan

President Nikos Christodoulides has set a goal to double the population of the Troodos region and Tillyria from 32,000 to 64,000 residents over the next decade. A new housing plan, developed by the housing commissioner and interior ministry, will be unveiled within days. Christodoulides emphasized the need to address the current reality, stating that the target will be pursued jointly with local community leaders. The government has already invested over €300 million in housing schemes and is developing over 5,500 new housing units. Additionally, steps have been taken to protect education infrastructure in remote areas, including keeping Kampos primary school open and operating small orientation classes in secondary schools. A three-year programme funded by Helleniq Energy and EKO will provide financial assistance to young families and free breakfasts for children attending public pre-schools in the areas.
