Cloudflare Revamps Containers for On‑Demand Agent Workloads

Cloudflare announced a redesign of its Containers service to better support agent workloads that require on‑demand, fast‑starting sandboxes. The new durable_object scheduling policy lets application code choose each sandbox’s image and compute resources at runtime, eliminating the need for separate deployments per environment. Containers now start more than six times faster—median startup dropped from ~4 seconds to 648 ms in ComputeSDK benchmarks—and support filesystem snapshots in public beta. The update also tightens the integration between Containers and Durable Objects, allowing the native ctx. container API to control a sandbox directly. These changes aim to make Containers a more natural complement to Workers, Dynamic Workers, and Durable Objects for agents needing a full Linux workspace.
