What happened
Cloudflare plans to issue quantum-proof TLS certificates, making it one of the first authorities to do so. The hybrid certificates will use an open-source platform and be free to both paying and non-paying users.
Cloudflare will acquire a trusted certificate root from CA GlobalSign to help establish ubiquity across the TLS ecosystem. This move aims to let millions of websites use post-quantum certificates without performance overhead.
The effort is part of a major overhaul in the web public key infrastructure (WebPKI) to make website encryption and authentication safe for the post-quantum age.
