Cyprus Committee on Missing Persons to Hold Annual Progress Briefings Starting 2027

The briefings will give families and stakeholders transparent updates, enabling coordinated support and ensuring continued funding and cooperation for the exhumation and identification program.
What happened
The Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP) will begin annual briefings in the second half of January 2027 to update relatives, organisations, authorities and the media on its work. Each briefing will be divided into three parts: a general overview of the year’s actions, the results achieved, and a detailed update on excavations, investigations, findings and future plans.
A presentation by the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics will cover identification progress. By July, the CMP had exhumed 1,719 bodies, identified 1,081 from the official list and 217 additional remains, returning 1,081 identified individuals to their families.
The initiative follows President Nikos Christodoulides’ commitment to resolve the fate of the last missing person.
