What happened
Cuba has updated its collective framework for the 2026 and 2027 hurricane seasons, building on lessons from the successful activation ahead of Hurricane Melissa in 2025. The framework aims to reduce the impact of tropical cyclones through coordinated humanitarian assistance triggered by scientific forecasts and backed by prearranged funding.
The National Civil Defence General Staff, the Institute of Meteorology, and other key partners have worked closely with the UN Resident Coordinator's Office and the UN Emergency Technical Team to position the country to respond more effectively amid the ongoing energy crisis.
