Colorado Family Drives Off Bear That Entered Kitchen

A Colorado family woke up on July 21 to find a black bear inside their kitchen, rummaging through trash and eating a table of Flintstones vitamins, according to security‑camera footage. The bear entered through an open back door left to let in a breeze during hot temperatures. The family’s 8‑year‑old daughter and her father frightened the animal away by opening the door and making noise. The owners said they will keep the door shut until local bears have enough food and go into hibernation. The incident follows a nationwide spike in bears entering homes after a dry winter that depleted plants, grasses, berries and nuts, leading to record bear deaths.
