Cloudflare Launches Continuous Trust System for Verified Bots
WHY IT MATTERS
It gives site owners confidence that automated traffic respects their rules, and lets bot operators prove ongoing compliance, strengthening web ecosystem security and reliability.
What happened
Cloudflare has introduced a new system that continuously evaluates the behavior of its Verified Bots, ensuring they not only identify themselves but also consistently respect website preferences. The platform now tracks how often bots obey robots. txt directives, respond to direct feedback, and adapt to HTTP 429 “Too Many Requests” signals.
By compiling these observations into an explainable trust band, Cloudflare can distinguish between isolated misconfigurations and repeated abusive patterns. The system pairs bot identity with real‑time evidence, allowing site owners to set trust thresholds for how they handle automated traffic.
Together with Bot Preference Sync and Bot Management, this loop gives operators a transparent way to earn and maintain trust over time. The feature is already used internally and will soon be available to all Cloudflare customers.
