Afghanistan Aid Cuts Hit Women-Led Organizations Hard

Women-led and women's rights organizations in Afghanistan are struggling due to drastic cuts in international humanitarian funding. A survey of 74 organizations found that funding reductions, which began in January 2025, have had a severe impact. These organizations already operate in a restrictive environment, where women and girls have been excluded from education, employment, and public spaces since August 2021. The survey captures the cumulative effects of these funding reductions, which were sustained through April 2026.
