Ukraine Faces Growing Crisis as Aid Shrinks Ahead of Winter
WHY IT MATTERS
The shrinking aid and escalating attacks threaten to deepen humanitarian suffering, jeopardize winter survival, and undermine post‑war recovery, making sustained donor support and a ceasefire urgent.
What happened
According to new data from the International Rescue Committee (IRC), Ukraine is entering winter amid its deadliest months since the full‑scale war began. Attacks on civilian infrastructure and populated areas have expanded beyond the front line, driving displacement, loss and chronic distress.
Over 90 % of respondents fear missile and drone strikes, and up to 60 % need health services and medicines. Financial assistance is the most urgent unmet need, with many households forced to abandon homes and lose income.
Aid has shrunk in every region monitored by the IRC, and some areas have received no assistance for more than two years. The IRC calls on donors to maintain investment and urges a complete pause in fighting to prevent further loss of life.
