Cyprus and India Explore Defence and Space Industry Cooperation
WHY IT MATTERS
The talks signal a strengthening of strategic and commercial ties between Cyprus and India, potentially expanding defence and space collaboration and enhancing regional security cooperation.
What happened
On 12 October, a senior Indian defence ministry delegation led by Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh met with Cypriot business and defence leaders in Nicosia. The meeting, hosted by the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Keve), highlighted opportunities for collaboration in defence, space and dual‑use technologies.
Keve president Stavros Stavrou welcomed the delegation and underscored the growing momentum in bilateral ties, citing the chamber’s long‑standing cooperation with the Indian High Commission. The Cyprus Defence and Space Industry Cluster (CyDSIC) showcased Cypriot companies’ capabilities and potential partnership avenues.
Discussions centred on maritime security and defence industrial cooperation, key priorities of Singh’s visit, which follows President Nikos Christodoulides’ May trip to India and aims to deepen the strategic partnership. Singh is scheduled to meet Defence Minister Vasilis Palmas on Tuesday and will next travel to Greece to meet senior defence officials.
