Cyprus to Pay €25 Million for Great Sea Interconnector Once Navtex Issued

Cyprus will contribute €25 million to the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI) project as soon as a Navtex notice authorises the resumption of seismic surveys, President Nikos Christodoulides confirmed on Plus TV. The payment, already earmarked in the 2025 and 2026 state budgets, follows an agreement reached with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Christodoulides said there is no friction between Nicosia and Athens over the project and that the Greek government will issue the Navtex within weeks, as Energy Minister Michael Damianos has indicated. The surveys are a prerequisite for the next construction phase, and the GSI is expected to reach completion around the end of 2031. The payment therefore marks a concrete step toward the interconnector’s operational timeline and the broader energy partnership between the two islands.
