Demolition at the Elektrozavod factory complex in Moscow has begun, despite concerns over the preservation of its historic buildings. The complex, a striking example of industrial architecture, had temporary protection as a site provisionally recognized for its cultural heritage until 2025. However, it was never added to the Unified State Register of Cultural Heritage Sites. The developer, Etalon Group, has promised to preserve the facades and recognizable features of the historic buildings, but it remains unclear whether even the facades will be preserved or replaced with replicas. A petition calling for the preservation of Elektrozavod's historic buildings has gathered over 19,000 signatures, with many expressing concerns over the project's lack of transparency.
