Djibouti Sees Mass Influx of Refugees from Yemen

What happened
Since September 10, 2026, the Obock region in Djibouti has experienced a significant influx of people arriving from Yemen, mainly women and children, amid a deteriorating security and humanitarian situation in the country. Approximately 1,600 Yemeni refugees have arrived in the Obock region to date, with some rescued at sea by the Djiboutian authorities after their boats ran out of fuel.
The refugees have landed in various coastal areas, including Obock Port, Khor Angar, Moulhoul, and Siâm, where they are awaiting arrangements for their transfer to Obock town.
The Djibouti Red Crescent Obock Branch has facilitated telephone calls for 28 refugee families to help separated family members re-establish contact with their relatives.
