DR Congo Handover of Forward Logistics Base Bolsters Ebola Response

What happened
On 26 August 2026, the World Food Programme officially transferred a newly installed Forward Logistics Base (FLB) in Lita to the Democratic Republic of the Congo government. The facility, comprising two mobile surgical units, six prefabricated structures, two ablution units, a generator, two light towers and furniture, adds 2,070 m² of storage capacity and 871 mt of cargo ready for use. The Emergency Telecommunications and Logistics Clusters supported 42 organisations, moved 627 mt of cargo, and coordinated more than 15 UNHAS‑EUHAF flights from Bunia to Kisangani, Beni, Isiro, Buta and Butembo. A C‑130 aircraft completed nine rotations from Entebbe, delivering personal protective equipment, medical gear, sanitation kits and specialised tents for Ebola treatment units. Joint WHO assessment missions in Nia‑Nia confirmed the FLB’s readiness to meet current Ebola logistics needs.
The handover equips local authorities with a fully functional logistics hub, ensuring rapid deployment of medical supplies and treatment infrastructure during future outbreaks.
