Ebola Outbreak in DR Congo's North Kivu Intensifies, Treatment Capacities Insufficient
WHY IT MATTERS
The outbreak remains highly unpredictable, with transmission patterns changing from week to week, and community trust is essential to contain the spread of the disease.
What happened
The Ebola outbreak in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo, has intensified since early September, with the province accounting for nearly 40% of all newly confirmed cases nationwide. New hotspots are emerging every week, and treatment capacities remain largely insufficient and inadequate.
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) coordinator Stéphanie Hoffmann compares the situation to fighting a megafire, with multiple outbreaks developing at the same time.
MSF is calling for an urgent mobilization of all stakeholders to increase treatment capacity and guarantee access to quality healthcare in Butembo and North Kivu province.
