What happened
India's Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced that the E20 fuel blend will increase mileage, aid farmers, and pose no harm to vehicles. He stated that all automobile manufacturers will develop flex‑fuel engines capable of running on 100% ethanol.
The shift is expected to eliminate the country's dependence on imported petrol and diesel, estimated at ₹22 lakh crore, and reduce pollution.
The move is part of India's broader strategy to boost domestic ethanol production and reduce foreign fuel imports.
