What happened
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has confirmed that nine ships and 11 aircraft are participating in the search for 14 people missing after a passenger ferry sank off the coast of Kyrenia last week. The ferry capsized on August 30, resulting in the deaths of 14 people and the hospitalization of one.
Eight crew members, including the captain, have been taken into custody. Turkish Cypriot 'prime minister' Unal Ustel is in Turkey to discuss reports with specialized organizations and meet with senior officials from the boat's insurance company.
The TCG Isin and TCG Alemdar, two deep-sea research vessels, are aiding in search-and-rescue efforts, with the TCG Alemdar's remotely operated underwater vehicle capable of grasping submerged objects and bringing them to the surface.
