Turkish Cypriot Leader Erhurman Postpones Ankara Visit Over Health Issue
WHY IT MATTERS
The delay postpones key diplomatic talks between Turkish Cypriot leaders and the Turkish government, potentially affecting ongoing negotiations and regional cooperation initiatives.
What happened
Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman, who was scheduled to travel to Ankara on October 15 for the “capital meetings” event, has postponed his trip due to a health problem. Turkish Cypriot media report that Erhurman is suffering from a herniated disc in the cervical spine, which has made it impossible for him to attend the planned meetings in the Turkish capital.
The visit has been rescheduled to a later date, which has not yet been announced.
The postponement means that discussions between Turkish Cypriot officials and Turkish authorities that were to take place in Ankara will be delayed until a new date is set.
